Role overview

At Inertia Consulting, we work across 6 key sectors: highways, rail, water, energy, commercial and residential construction, and legal. Our clients include major national and regional contractors, Highways England ASCs, utility companies, housing developers, blue chip corporations and large international insurers and law firms.

Our Graduate Engineer’s have a varied role that includes the creation and checking of structural designs and drawings as part of wider projects, supporting your colleagues on inspections and surveys, undertaking CAD design and supporting construction projects throughout the UK and overseas.

We’re committed to ongoing training for all our team members and offer a range of courses to develop your skills. These include confined space access, roped access, RYA Powerboat Level II, IPAF and PASMA certification as well as formal Design, Health, Safety and construction contract training.

As your experience and confidence grows, there is opportunity for you to take on greater levels of responsibility and seek promotion within the company. We are always keen for our staff to see projects from start to finish, so you have a sense of ownership and pride in the end result.

Job responsibilities

You’ll be expected to undertake design and survey work under the supervision of Chartered Engineers. Your work will be expected to be in compliance with all company processes relating to our ISO accredited Quality, Environmental and Health and Safety Systems.

There will be occasions when you’ll need to work away from home, sometimes overseas, as well as working some nights and weekends. In return, you’ll benefit from our commitment to looking after our team, which includes opportunities for flexible working, regular social events and a family focus.

Essentail skills

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering
• Knowledge in design of structures to British Standards and/or Eurocodes
• Knowledge of bridge design process
• Knowledge of bridge assessment process
• Experience in structural inspections
• Experience in specification and contract document preparation
• Ability in CAD design
• Full, clean driving licence

Desirable skills

• Master’s degree in Civil Engineering
• IPAF
• Medium risk confined spaces certification
• PASMA certification
• CSCS card holder
• BICS LANTRA Inspector

Person Specification

You’ll be a highly motivated individual who can work equally well on your own or as part of a team. You’ll be expected to work effectively within a multi-skilled team when undertaking client projects.

As a company, we’ve developed a “can do” reputation that reflects our innovative and positive approach to works ranging from complex bridge designs to difficult and high risk access inspections. We’ll be looking for you to share this ethos and outlook.

This varied role will ideally suit you if you’re equally happy to work outdoors, in underground tunnels and reservoirs, on water in our powerboat or pontoons, or using 4x4 vehicles, quad bikes and MEWPs, as creating designs in our office. A flexible attitude towards both the nature and environment of your work is essential.
