Role overview
Our summer internships are suitable for second year or third year Civil Engineering undergraduates with a strong knowledge of structural theory to first principles. You’ll gain a fantastic insight into a busy engineering consultancy and learn how to design and detail simple bridges and structures. Your placement will help you develop a working knowledge of design codes and detailing practises to complement your university studies.
Our placements usually last around 4 months but can be extended for up to a year. If we’re impressed with your performance and have a suitable role available, we may commit to sponsoring you to complete your degree and offer you a permanent role on completion. Please see our Graduate Engineer [link] job specification for details of the exciting training and career progression opportunities we have to offer.

You’ll be working within our team to undertake design and detailing of new footbridges and road bridges, and carrying out onsite surveys and inspections. You may also have the opportunity to help supervise the construction of new bridges onsite.
Please note that when based in our Derby office, you’ll need to arrange your own accommodation and transport to and from work. We’ll provide you with details on where to find suitable accommodation if you’re shortlisted for a placement.
On occasion, you may be required to travel within the UK as part of a team. When working away overnight, Inertia Consulting will cover your subsistence and accommodation costs. Like all our team members, you’ll benefit from our commitment to looking after our team, which includes opportunities for flexible working, regular social events and a family focus.
