Achieving excellence in engineering
Our engineering consultancy services include bridge and civil engineering structure design, strengthening and repair (design and supervision), and feasibility and option reports.
These can be combined with other services such as bridge inspection, non-destructive testing and structural investigation, and construction supervision to create an integrated, end-to-end project management service that’s tailored to your precise requirements.
As with all aspects of our work, Health & Safety quality and protecting the environment are our top priorities at all times.
❯Design
The Inertia Consulting team are highly experienced in the analysis, design and detailing of road, rail and waterway bridges, and other civil engineering structures. Our wide-ranging portfolio includes stations, multi-storey car parks, gantries, retaining walls, matrix boards, large format advertising structures and a multitude of bridge types. These projects span both permanent and temporary works.
Our expert knowledge in construction ensures that our designs are always buildable. In our modern design offices in Derby, our qualified engineers use the latest software to create safe, sustainable and durable designs in line with your needs and budget.
Specific element analysis capabilities include complex static, dynamic and non-linear methods, including footfall analysis of sensitive structures, track-structure interaction analysis, blast analysis, building analysis and virtual wind tunnel modelling.
As you’d expect, all our designs are compliant with the latest technical standards and industry codes of practice. These include the latest British Standards and Eurocodes, as well as Highways England, Network Rail and London Underground Standards.
Strengthening and repairs
Our engineers have gained a strong reputation for our innovative approach to complex strengthening and repair projects. These have included design and supervision projects on some of the busiest sections of the UK’s highways and rail networks.
We’re also well-known for our sympathetic approach to rehabilitating heritage structures, with projects such as the Wilford Suspension Bridge in Nottingham and the 1889 Ferry Bridge in Burton-on-Trent earning us multiple industry awards.
Once a defect has been identified, we use cutting-edge techniques to ascertain the structure’s required capacity (if not already known), before designing strengthening and repair measures to restore capacity to the desired level. Specific works might include parapet upgrades, underpinning, major concrete repairs, re-decking and steelwork repairs
Feasibility and option reports
Preparing feasibility and option reports is a crucial part of the planning process for a new bridge or other civil engineering structure. Our qualified engineers use the latest technology and equipment to assess and report on the suitability of a site for the project in hand, and your options for designing and developing the structure.
As experts in specialist access, we have the tools and equipment to enable us to survey confined spaces and other hard-to-reach areas using roped access, power boats, pontoons and other specialist techniques. Our highly trained support staff will then prepare detailed and accurate reports to help inform how you progress your project.
We can also prepare feasibility and option reports on existing structures, either as a standalone service or as part of a strengthening and repair project. Our engineers will interpret the data obtained on site to calculate the structure’s capacity and residual strength, before presenting options for refurbishment and strengthening works, or building a replacement structure.
